Dark Pattern Detector
By Flora May dela Cruz
A Chrome extension that flags deceptive design patterns on the page you're reading — fake urgency, confirmshaming, sneaky checkboxes.
What it is
A Chrome extension I built because dark patterns — fake urgency, confirmshaming, pre-checked boxes, roach-motel cancellation flows — are the opposite of good UX, and most people never notice them until they’ve already paid for something they didn’t want.
The extension scans the page you’re on and highlights suspected dark patterns in place, with a short explanation of why each one is problematic.
Why
Reading about dark patterns in a list of definitions isn’t the same as seeing one called out the moment you’re being manipulated. The extension is a teaching tool first, a defense tool second.
