Editor's Note
When Nick and I moved in together, we discovered something obvious in hindsight — we have opposite eyes. Mine pulled toward pale, minimal, calm. His leaned bright, bold, lived-in.
We didn't negotiate. We let the rooms hold both — a neutral palette as the canvas, color where it mattered, mid-century pieces to anchor it all. What follows is a small tour of the result.

where we land
A tan leather sofa softens the room; a single blue chair and a stray guitar carry the bright half of the brief.
Slim metal railings; a woven ottoman as a sculptural counterweight.
A collection of mirrors built up over time — circles, octagons, diamonds — caught in the late-afternoon light.

A grey tile backsplash; a framed photo and a jar of candy as quiet kitchen jewelry.
Mugs, bowls, a small plant — everyday objects arranged to feel intentional.
Flowers and a small dish at the window; warmth without effort.

A rooftop table set for dinner, the city skyline standing in for art.
A chess board mid-game; black and white pieces against the evening light.
A colourful round rug grounds the patio set — pale frame, bright floor.

the small things
A giraffe holding a red balloon and a small nativity scene — souvenirs we keep up year-round.
Liquid chalk on the window, drawn for the holidays and left up past New Year.
The bar cart — equal parts ceremony and convenience.
A marble tray on the counter — plant, towel, jar of marimo. A tiny still life.
